Honk! Honk! It's gridlock and the little red car can't move. The player is a traffic cop in the Rush Hour Traffic Jam Puzzle where the objective is to get the red car off the road. To play, pick one of 40 challenge cards; solutions are printed on the back of each card. Then set up the cars and buses in a specified pattern on the 6-inch-square road grid. Move the vehicles one by one (obey those traffic laws!) until the red car can escape the traffic jam. There are four levels of difficulty. Kids can alternate turns with another player or just "play in traffic" alone. The game from Binary Arts received a national award from Mensa and is used in elementary school math classes. The design includes clear instructions printed on the sturdy box, which can be used both as a playing tray and for storage. The game cards stow away in a drawer in the road grid. This is a 1999 Parents' Choice recommended toy. --Marcie Bovetz

Client Critiques
My two youngsters ages 8 and 7 adore this, as do my husband and I. It's fantastic in building thinking abilities. The difficult cards are adequate to stump the adults, but the newbie cards are a terrific beginning point for the youngsters. A great game to take locations where you have to sit and wait for awhile. I highly advise it!
The concept is so very simple it's ingenious. Drive your vehicle in a straight line. But if you have ever been in NY in the course of rush hour, you know that is not at all times painless. I am of course referring to gridlock, that bane of city site visitors, when no cars can move. Properly in Rush Hour, you get to move around all the cars and trucks to clear a path for your self. The game comes with a set of cards (very easily stored in the plastic tray) that show exactly where to set up the vehicles. That takes a minute, but some of the puzzles take a extended time to solve. They range from quite straightforward to very hard. And Binary Arts sells added card sets so the fun never ends! This game is sure to make a lot of children into civil engineers. As for durability, you could in all probability throw this game out the window though driving on the highway, and it would be ok. Just far better hope it really is not rush hour!
