The 5-6 player expansion set of "The Settlers of Catan" includes the following items:
1) Extra land and ocean tiles that raise the size of the island of Catan from 19 land tiles in the 3-4 player game to 30 land tiles [surrounded by water tiles] for the five-6 player version.
two) A full set of 30 numbered discs that matches the new, bigger island.
3) Even more cards of every single form of resource needed to accommodate much more players
4) An addendum set of rules for five-6 playes that introduces fascinating new options for making not included in the three-four player game.
Oh, you almost certainly know this, but you will need to be aware that the 5-6 player expansion is not a stand-alone game, you need the three-four player game in order to use this expansion.
OK, why obtain the expansion? It, of course, allows up to two a great deal more players to join in. Also, the guidelines addendum contains an exciting twist... between-turn bulding. For the reason that five or 6 players means longer instances between an individual's turn, the in between-turn "open building" arrangement allows players to construct or obtain items with the cards they hold in their hands (no trading with the bank or other players between turns though!). That not only permits players to get farther ahead when it is not their turn, it also makes it possible for them to use their cards so that they are less susceptible to "robber's" 7-card in-hand maximum limit if a 7 is rolled. Plus, 5-6 players in the game gives alot more player-to-player trade alternatives, etc.
All in all an outstanding addition to an outstanding game. It is enjoyable, it's durable, it is interactive, and some say, "addictive."

I had been excited about acquiring this to let alot more players in our normal game night...even so what is not listed is that this is produced for the later editions exactly where the water pieces are linked together like a puzzle (not the normal hexagon shaped water pieces). Truly.. how difficult would it have been to crank out a couple of water pieces to fit the old editions and toss them in the box... boom, all editions are now covered in one particular shot.
I am sad to say I had to return this hours following receiving it.
